The year 2022 has seen a flurry of good news in the field of major projects: the last unit of Baihetan Hydropower Station completed trial operation; China's large aircraft C919 has obtained model qualification certificate. China's space station has made new breakthroughs in manned spaceflight... From the sky to the sea, major projects are constantly breaking industry records, attracting global attention and becoming one of the key factors supporting the stable operation of China's economy, fully demonstrating China's strength.
The world's largest clean energy corridor has been built
Officially put into production! The last unit of Baihetan Hydropower Station completed its 72-hour trial operation on Dec 20, 2022. So far, Baihetan Hydropower Station 16 million kilowatt hydropower turbine generating units all put into production.
Baihetan Hydropower Station is located on the reach of the Jinsha River at the border of Ningnan County in Sichuan Province and Qiaojia County in Yunnan Province. In addition to its unique hydropower resources, the complex natural conditions of the narrow valley and steep bank slope of the lower reaches of the Jinsha River also make the Baihetan project top in the world in terms of the complexity and severity of geology and climate and the difficulty of the project. The project builders have overcome a number of world-class technical problems, braved the world's hydropower "no man's land", and finally achieved the world's first six key technical indicators, including the capacity of a single machine of 1 million kilowatts and the size of underground cavern cluster.
Baihetan Hydropower Station, as a major project to deliver electricity from the west to the East, has put all its units into operation, which will greatly contribute to the realization of China's "double carbon" goal. According to statistics, Baihetan Hydropower station can generate 62.4 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, which can meet the annual electricity supply of a city of 500,000 people in one day. At the same time, Baihetan Hydropower Station is also connected with five huge cascade hydropower stations on the main stream of the Yangtze River, namely Wudongde, Xiluodu, Xiangjiaba, Three Gorges and Gezhouba, making it the largest "clean energy corridor" in the world. Spanning 1,800 kilometers, the six hydropower stations have a total installed capacity of 71.695 million kilowatts, equivalent to the installed capacity of the Three Gorges power stations. They produce about 300 billion kilowatt-hours of clean electricity annually, which can meet the annual demand of 360 million people.
The world's first C919 was delivered to the market
The C919, a Chinese-made large aircraft, lands at Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport on Dec 9, 2022, completing its "debut" flight from Pudong to Hongqiao in Shanghai.
The aircraft has the registration number B-919A, with the "B" representing China's civil aviation aircraft and the "919" matching its model name, with the "A" meaning the first. On the same day, the C919 was officially delivered to China Eastern Airlines, the world's first customer, marking the first step in market operation of the homegrown large aircraft and the first time for China's civil aviation transport market to have a domestically developed trunk jet aircraft.
In 2007, the C919 passenger jet was officially launched. In November 2015, the first aircraft was assembled and rolled off the assembly line. The first plane made its maiden flight in May 2017. Over the following five years, the six test flights completed a series of test flights in Yanliang, Shaanxi Province, Nanchang, Jiangxi Province, Dongying, Shandong Province, Pudong, Shanghai, Dunhuang, Gansu Province, and other places. The comprehensive inspection of power, electrical and other systems verified the safety and reliability of the aircraft under extreme conditions such as stall, natural icing, high temperature and high cold. On September 29, 2022, the Civil Aviation Administration of China issued the model qualification certificate for the C919 to the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC), making China's large aircraft finally hold the "entry ticket" in the aviation market.
The aviation manufacturing industry is known as the "flower of industry". The research, development and manufacturing capacity of large passenger aircraft is generally regarded as an important standard of a country's aviation manufacturing level. Driven by the C919 large passenger jet project, a number of internationally competitive commercial aircraft industrial clusters and innovative enterprises have grown vigorously, giving a strong boost to the upgrading of relevant industries and boosting economic and social development.
Construction of China's space station is progressing smoothly
Under the starry sky, the rocket rises higher and faster. On November 29, 2022, the Shenzhou XV manned spacecraft, carrying three astronauts, embarked on a six-month flying journey;
At 7:33 am on November 30, 2022, the Shenzhou-14 astronaut crew opened the "home" of the Chinese Space station with the basic "T" shape, welcoming the Shenzhou-15 astronaut crew to enter the "Tiangong". In China's own space station, the Chinese astronaut crew achieved the first "space meeting".
On the evening of December 2, 2022, the Shenzhou-14 and Shenzhou-15 astronaut crews held a handover ceremony, during which the two crew members handed over the keys to China's space station. This is the first in-orbit handover of the Chinese astronaut crew, and the Chinese space station has officially started the long-term manned residence mode.
Shenzhou XV is the last manned spacecraft to be launched during the construction phase of China's space station. After the arrival of God XV, China's space station was completed for the first time, consisting of the Tianhe core module, the Qentian Experiment module, the Mengtian experiment module, two manned spacecraft and a cargo spacecraft. The Malaysian state news agency reported that the "three cabins and three ships" of the Chinese space station had reached the maximum configuration of its current design, weighing nearly 100 tonnes in total, "demonstrating China's space engineering capabilities to the whole world".
Hao Chun, director of the China Manned Space Engineering Office, said that after the construction of the space station in orbit is completed by 2022, the project will enter a phase of application and development lasting more than 10 years. The astronauts will stay in orbit for a long time to carry out space science and technology experiments. At the same time, larger scale space research experiments and new technology tests will be carried out using the scientific experiment cabinets and large load facilities outside the space station. It mainly involves space life science and human body research, microgravity physics science, space astronomy and earth science, space new technology and many other fields.
Offshore super "large" fan off line
6 megawatts, 10 megawatts, 13 megawatts, 16 megawatts... Several wind power industry "the most", from Fujian Three Gorges offshore wind Power International Industrial Park out. On November 23, 2022, the offshore super "big" wind turbine, 16 MW offshore wind turbine, was rolled off the production line in the Three Gorges Offshore Wind Power International Industrial Park in Fujian Province, becoming the world's largest single capacity, largest impeller diameter and lightest unit MW weight wind turbine.
The offline single unit capacity of 16 MW offshore wind turbine, impeller diameter 252 meters, impeller sweep area of about 50,000 square meters, about the size of 7 standard football fields; The hub is 146 meters high, about the height of a 50-story building. At rated operating conditions, a single unit can generate 34.2 KWH per revolution. Based on the design value of the average generation over many years, a single unit can output more than 66 million KWH of clean electricity per year.
According to reports, the 16-megawatt unit has made important technological breakthroughs in the research and development and manufacturing of key core components such as large spindle bearings and ultra-long lightweight blades. The digital level of unit operation condition monitoring is high, and the operation mode can be adjusted intelligtively for typhoon and other bad weather to ensure the safety and efficient power generation of the fan.
"The successful offline production of 16 MW units marks the historic leap from 'follow up' to 'run and run' to 'lead' in China's wind power equipment industry, creating the latest benchmark for global offshore wind power equipment development." Three Gorges Group chairman Lei Mingshan said. The successful development of this unit will also greatly promote the upgrading of related technology industries and comprehensively improve the economy of offshore wind power.
The first large deep water gas field was discovered
Another major breakthrough in exploration! On October 20, 2022, CNOOC announced the discovery of Baodao 21-1, China's first deep-water giant gas field, in Qiongdongnan Basin, southeast of Hainan Island. The confirmed geological reserves exceeded 50 billion cubic meters, achieving the biggest breakthrough in the Songnan-Baodao depression in more than half a century.
In the field of offshore oil and gas exploration, water depths greater than 300 meters are generally referred to as deep water, and Wells deeper than 3,500 meters are defined as deep. The Baodao 21-1 gas field discovered this time is located in the deep water area in the southeast of Hainan Island, with a maximum operating water depth of more than 1,500 meters and a drilling depth of more than 5,000 meters. It is about 150 kilometers away from the deep-water "Deepsea No. 1" gas field, and the Marine geological conditions are extremely complex.
Wu Keqiang, chief geologist of Hainan Branch of CNOOC, said that as the formation deepens and the quality of seismic and other basic data deteriorates, the difficulty of reservoir prediction, gas-bearing analysis and structural implementation has increased exponentially, and the difficulty of drilling has also increased significantly. "The successful discovery of Baodao 21-1 not only confirms the exploration potential of the Baodao depression, but also shows that we have made an important breakthrough in deep water exploration technology, which is of great significance to the exploration of similar strata."
According to the overall plan of CNOOC, by 2025, the total proven natural gas reserves of Yinggehai, Qiongdongnan and Pearl River Estuary basins in the South China Sea will reach 1 trillion cubic meters, and "one trillion cubic meters of atmosphere" will be built. Through Asia's largest undersea gas transmission main line between Cliff City and Hong Kong, high-quality clean energy from the undersea will be directly connected to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and Hainan Island, providing a strong guarantee for regional development and energy structure transformation.
The first million-ton CCUS project was put into production
"Eat" carbon dioxide, "spit out" oil - clean and efficient carbon "catcher" in China!
On August 29, 2022, the largest carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) whole industrial chain demonstration base in China and the first million-ton CCUS project in China -- Qilu Petrochemical -- Shengli Oilfield million-ton CCUS project officially started gas injection, marking the beginning of mature commercial operation of China's CCUS industry.
CCUS is an emerging technology for the low-carbon and efficient development of fossil energy. It refers to the capture and purification of carbon dioxide emitted in the production process and the reuse and storage of it in the new production process. Qilu Petrochemical -- Shengli Oilfield million ton CCUS project, Qilu Petrochemical is responsible for the capture and supply of carbon dioxide, and transport it to Shengli Oilfield for oil flooding storage. When the captured carbon dioxide is injected into the reservoir, it can increase the flow of the oil and "flush" the oil out of the cracks in the rock formation, thus enhancing oil recovery. According to statistics, carbon dioxide flooding efficiency is about 40% higher than water flooding, oil recovery cost is about 20% lower than water, storage rate can reach 60% to 70%, the final storage rate can reach 100%, both ecological benefits and economic benefits.
The "Opinions of the CPC Central Committee and The State Council on Fully, Accurately and Comprehensively Implementing the New Development Concepts to Achieve Carbon Peak Neutrality" proposes to promote the research and development, demonstration and industrial application of large-scale carbon capture, utilization and storage technologies. The official of Sinopec said that during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, Sinopec will strive to build another two million ton CCUS demonstration bases in its affiliated Shengli Oilfield, East China Oil and Gas Field, Jiangsu Oilfield, etc., to realize the industrialization development of CCUS.
Hualong One was fully completed and put into operation
As a "national name card" of China's nuclear power to the world, Hualong One is one of the third-generation nuclear power models with the highest acceptance in the nuclear power market. It is also a third-generation pressurized water reactor nuclear power innovation product developed and designed by Chinese nuclear power companies with fully independent intellectual property rights. On March 25, 2022, the second unit of the Hualong One Demonstration Project, the Fuqing Nuclear Power Plant No. 6, was officially ready for commercial operation, and the Hualong One demonstration Project was fully completed and put into operation.
In January 2021, Fuqing Nuclear Power Unit 5, the first unit of the Hualong One Global Demonstration Project, was put into commercial operation. When Hualong One is fully completed and put into operation in 2022, the two units will have an annual generating capacity of nearly 20 billion KWH. This will not only play a positive role in optimizing China's energy mix, but also mean that China's nuclear power technology and comprehensive strength will rank first in the world.
Based on the mature technology verified by engineering, "Hualong One" creatively adopts the safety design concept of "177 core arrangement" and "combination of active and inactive", and realizes the localization of all core equipment, with the localization rate of the first set reaching 88%. In addition, the project also uses the design concepts of single reactor layout and double containment to fully ensure the safety, economy and advanced nature of the power plant.
While achieving mass construction in China, "Hualong One" has also achieved good landing effect overseas. At present, China National Nuclear Group has established nuclear power project cooperation intentions with more than 20 countries and regions, including Pakistan, Argentina and Brazil. The No. 2 nuclear power plant in Karachi, Pakistan, which is the overseas demonstration project of Hualong One, has been put into commercial operation and the No. 3 nuclear power plant has generated electricity. Hualong One nuclear power brand drives the whole nuclear industry chain to go global, and the "national name card" of China's nuclear power industry is even more shining.
"Count the east and count the west" plays a new movement of digital economy
In February 2022, the National Development and Reform Commission and other four departments approved the construction of national integrated big data center national computing hub nodes in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, the Yangtze River Delta, the Chengdu-Chongqing region, and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Earlier, the four departments approved the construction of national computing hub nodes in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Guizhou Province, Gansu Province and Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. At this point, the overall layout design of the national integrated big data center system has been completed, and the "East count West count" project has been officially launched.
According to Sun Wei, deputy director of the high Technology Department of the National Development and Reform Commission, the "number" in the "east number and west number" refers to data, and the "number" refers to the computing power, that is, the ability to process data. China's western region is rich in resources and has the potential to develop data centers and meet the computing needs of the east. Therefore, like the "South-to-north Water Diversion Project" and "West-to-east power transmission project", it should be integrated from a national perspective to optimize the allocation of resources and improve the efficiency of resource use.
Two batches of 8 nodes layout construction positioning is different, play different roles. Guizhou, Inner Mongolia, Gansu and Ningxia will build non-real-time computing power support bases facing the whole country. It is positioned to continuously improve the service quality and utilization efficiency of computing power, give full play to its resource advantages, and actively undertake non-real-time computing power needs such as background processing, off-line analysis, storage and backup across the country. The four nodes -- Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei, Yangtze River Delta, Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and Chengdu-Chongqing -- should serve the needs of implementing major regional development strategies. It aims to further coordinate the layout of data centers in and around cities, and realize the coordination and sustainability of large-scale computing power deployment and land, energy, water, electricity and other resources.
Xu Bin, deputy director of the Center for Innovation-driven Development under the National Development and Reform Commission, said the project could drive about 400 billion yuan of investment every year. After the construction of computing facilities, it will bring information technology, green energy and other industrial development opportunities to the west.
